Ulysse Loup is a Franco-Swiss bassist and composer.
His work, influenced by contemporary jazz, free improvisation, and new music,
creates a distinctive hybrid sound. He enjoys working with artists from
different backgrounds, and has composed for theatre and dance performances.
Ulysse composes and/or performs with numerous groups throughout Switzerland and Europe, including trio Allure, Noblique, 0°W, Tzupati Orchestra, Fusoosh, Espar, Robot Cat … Ulysse has had the privilege of sharing the stage with esteemed musicians such as Django Bates, Jim Black, Ralph Alessi, Ronny Graupe and Stefan Schultze. He appears on the albums: Apilaptok, Dualité Cohérente, Elbow Grease, Half a dozen.
Ulysse began his musical studies at the Improvised Music Association (AMR) in Geneva before relocating to Bern in 2017 to pursue further studies at the Bern University of the Arts. He obtained a bachelor's degree in jazz bass and a master's degree in composition. He then pursued a master's in performance at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
A keen traveler, Ulysse finds deep inspiration for his compositions in his travels across the globe, often by sailboat or bicycle.
The album Apilaptok (*2023) was written after an expedition to Greenland, and 0°W (*2025) recounts a transatlantic sailing trip.
